FAQs

Studies by the American Medical Association have shown the negative effects of stress on health. THEY SAY STRESS IS A FACTOR IN MORE THAN 75% OF ALL ILLNESS AND DISEASE TODAY. Reflexology is a natural way to combat stress and induce relaxation.

To quote from a medical dictionary:
"The physical manifestations of an illness, unless caused by mechanical trauma, cannot be divorced from a person's emotional life. He responds in his own unique way to stress." In short, stress makes the body vulnerable to disease.

Is reflexology a new alternative healing modality?

The documented validated history of reflexology indicates that reflexology was discovered in the 20th Century by three Medical Doctors. However, there is some evidence that reflexology may date back 5,000 years to Ancient Egypt, and later to China. Reflexology made its appearance in the United States in the early 1900's and is becoming one of the fastest growing complementary health care modalities in America. Many people are choosing reflexology to augment their current wellness plans.

What should I expect during a session?

When you come in to Peaceful Sole you will fill out some paperwork, remove your shoes and socks, and have a relaxing foot bath while we discuss the reasons for your visit. Your practitioner will formulate a plan for the session, then have you lie on a massage table with your feet elevated on a pillow. As your feet are being worked on, soft music will be playing in the background and you will soon be in a deep state of relaxation. You will leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

Are any tools used for reflexology?

No tools are used at Peaceful Sole.

Does reflexology hurt?

At times there can be some discomfort, but most people experience a feeling of deep relaxation. When you signal that an area is uncomfortable, pressure will be adjusted to find the point of relaxing pain.

What is the difference between reflexology and a foot massage?

Reflexology is different than massage in that with reflexology reflex points are being stimulated to induce a response in the body. The main goal of massage is to relax the muscles.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are generally 60 minutes. 90 minute sessions are also available for people needing additional calf stretching (PNF) and/or (PFM), and in need of a longer relaxation period.

How often do I need to have a session?

It varies by person. The more chronic the problem the more often and longer reflexology should be used. If you are using reflexology as a preventative measure in your wellness program, once or twice a month is recommended. Also, your practitioner will show you how to work on yourself in between sessions.

Do you work on children and teens?

Yes. Reflexology can be beneficial for babies, children, and teens. It has shown to benefit children who have ADD to be able to focus better at school, sleep better and improve their self-esteem. If they are taking medication, in some cases reflexology can help them enough to be able to reduce their dosage (of course under a Doctor’s care). Teens with hormonal imbalances, acne, headaches, allergies, and immune issues can benefit from reflexology too.

Is there any licensure for reflexologists?

Unfortunately, at this time there is no governing body over reflexology. This means that anyone can call themselves a reflexologist. Make sure you ask your reflexologist what their credentials are, how much education they have had, and where they got it. Reflexologists can become board certified by completing a required number of educational hours and passing an extensive test given by the American Reflexology Certification Board.

Do you bill insurance?

No. At this time Reflexologists cannot bill insurance.
